This page features the controversial photograph, by lauded photographer Kevin Carter, of a starving Sudanese girl and a waiting vulture. After capturing this image, Carter scared the bird away but left the girl alone before leaving South Sudan. Months later, he won the illustrious Pulitzer Prize for this image. Three months on, he committed suicide in South Africa.
