Poems by Sudanese refugees in Kenya (Go direct to website)
|
This page has many poems by Sudanese people who have been forced to leave Sudan and go the Kenya. The author reminds us of something very important: "refugees come from all walks of life. They include teachers, doctors, lawyers, architects, farmers, nurses, and many other professions. Yet when in a refugee camp - they become known as refugees - and ... are then subject to prejudice, to criticism, to mistaken ways and are without dignity, without value, without anything. Yet they have feelings, they have knowledge, they have skills, they have hope, they have each other and together we can build upon those virtues, building their capacity in order to make it easier for each of the refugees to return home, when the time allows. [The poems show] some of the feelings that have been expressed in verse by refugees from Sudan" |
